Call for Papers Keynote Speakers Program General Info Selected Papers Earlier Editions

The Organizing Committee of the IV Seminar - Music Science Technology: Frontiers and Ruptures, to be held from 2th to 4th of July 2012 at the Music Department of the University of Sao Paulo, Brazil, invites the submission of proposals in the form of expanded abstracts.

The seminar is proposed as an opportunity to discuss the relationship between music, science and technology, regarding not only its technical aspects, but also their aesthetic, creative and sociocultural relations. Papers should preferably, but not exclusively, be directed to the following topics:

  • a.) technological mediation and its implications for listening and composition

  • b.) experimental art processes

  • c.) the notion of liveness

  • d.) interactive musical systems

  • e.) improvisation and experimentation in music

  • f.) the use of technological tools and the socialization of music creation

  • g.) aesthetic and political aspects of contemporary music creation

  • h.) the expansion of means and spaces for music production

  • i.) analytical and critical perspectives on the music production mediated by technologies

  • j.) ubiquitous music and music made on digital networks

  • k.) questions related to musical acoustics and sound perception

Notification of acceptance: May 8, 2012
Deadline for sending the text for publication: June 2, 2012

Proposals may be written in Portuguese, English and Spanish and should not exceed 7000 characters (about 1000 words).

Full papers will be published in the Seminar's Proceedings. Instructions for formatting the final draft will be released shortly.

The duration of each presentation will be 20 minutes (15 minutes for presenting the paper and 5 minutes for discussion). The Seminar's organizers will provide the technical infrastructure for the basic presentation of the works (computer, multimedia projector, stereo, CD player). Any specific technical needs should be informed and requested in the Comments dialog box of the registration form.

The registration fee will be R$100.00 (100 Brazilian Reais) payable at the beginning of the Seminar.
