Artistic Production

Artistic creation processes per se, performed by artists and groups of artists directly related to the project. These creations shall explore interactive concepts and procedures, and use the systems created by the group. This production shall encompass two main forms:

1. Improvisation: correlated to the exploration of free interaction process, in which musical development results from open processes and such that decisions relate to chains of events.
2. Man-machine Interaction: related to the study and development of interaction processes involving humans and technological devices.

The development of interactive systems and the reflective analyses to be built in this project shall link accordingly to related artistic production. This integration between research and creation is a main concern in the present initiative. Three aspects shall be specifically explored:

1. improvisational strategies: based on previously existing projects developed by team members, e.g. previous work by Rogerio Costa (Projeco Fapesp Proc. no. 11/07678-7 "A improvisação musical e suas conexões" and Project Fapesp Proc. no. 07/57118-2 “Investigação sobre o ambiente da livre improvisação musical: fundamentos para uma máquina de performance”).

2. sensing and information capture: accounting for gesture capture and extraction of environmental information; use of connected sensors and interfaces created using Arduino and the creation of functions for real time motion capture using video cameras. This work shall follow up on previous work by Prof. Fernando Iazzetta, who has explored this approach since 1997.

3. multimedia: exploration of multidisciplinary features of the research team to build projects in which linguistic convergence is a main feature. This work shall be grounded on the expertise of Profs. Gilberto Prado and Silvia Laurentiz.
